SCS Students Blast Off At Aviation Camp

Students from across the Mid-South learned what it means to take flight at the 2017 Memphis Aviation Career Education Academy.

The academy, which was presented by the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals and hosted by East High School, exposed teens to a variety of aviation careers. Students toured the Hospital Wing facility, FedEX aviation facilities, visited the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center and even took a short flight on an airplane. During the field trips, they were able to interact with pilots and aviation professionals to learn about what it takes succeed in an aviation career.

The students also got some hands-on experience with flight. They built small rockets using educational kits and launched them to see how far they would fly.
