While most SCS students graduated in May, a group of students in Shelby County received a special graduation ceremony this month.
The SCS English as a Second Language or ESL Summer Enrichment Program helps children who are new to the country and cannot speak English. Some admit they are nervous at first and don’t want to come to school, but by the end of the program they are confident and well-adjusted.
“It’s the first time I’m in America and I am so happy,” said graduate John Lenge.
Teachers also expose them to the branches of government, Social Studies and Math.
